Lovely location, good food; but note the menu only changes with the seasons, so after a few nights, you'll have tried them all, even more limited for Veggie / vegan needs... Service was good but despite pre-booking a bottle to be in room on arrival, it wasn't there - so then agreeing to move that to suit actual day of birthday (a few days later) in room when back from day out - still missing and then asked for it to be chilled on table, for pre booked meal that night - it failed to materialise on each occasion. Did manage to find it's way onto the bill though (as booked) but politely removed when this issue was pointed out...... Selected here, as thought it was a pub / restaurant with nice rooms, so hoped to unwind in front of the fire at the end of a day's walking..... Enjoy a few drinks and not have to worry about driving. Needed to book a table and eat as very busy and popular - food based more than a local. So we spent some nights eating away to get the choice we wanted, but leaving one of us having to drive back!

Had lunch after a 6 mile walk. Cosy and welcoming, delicious food - our party of 4 enjoyed the burger and the beef followed by the best rice pudding served with poached peach and coconut ice cream. Really lovely service - highly recommend.

Passei hoje para almoçar e tive um almoço excelente. O cogumelo Hem of the Woods com um croissant comprimido como entrada foi tão delicioso quanto parece. Bochecha, alcatra e só Deus sabe o que mais estava feito com perfeição, e um pudim fino. O menu é uma mistura inteligente do onipresente (peixe com batatas fritas) e coisas muito mais interessantes. Trinta libras por três cursos neste nível de execução é uma pechincha, sério.

Carrillera de ternera, rabadilla y Dios sabe qué más estaba perfectamente hecho, y un buen budín. El menú es una inteligente mezcla de lo omnipresente (pescado y patatas fritas) y cosas mucho más interesantes. Treinta libras por tres cursos en este nivel de ejecución es una ganga, en serio.

I dropped in today for lunch and had a superb lunch. Hem of the Woods mushroom with a compressed croissant for a starter was as delightful as it seems. Beef cheek, rump and goodness knows what else was perfectly done, and a fine pudding. The menu is a clever mix of the ubiquitous (fish and chips) and much more interesting stuff. Thirty quid for three courses at this level of execution is a bargain, seriously.

Esta foi a nossa primeira estadia neste pub fantástico. Desde a nossa chegada até a nossa partida, a equipe nos fez muito bem-vindos e foram muito simpáticos e prestativos. Nós ficamos em um pacote com jantar e café da manhã, a comida era de outro mundo e a garçonete Holly nos serviu com um sorriso e também nos deu informações sobre de onde a comida tinha vindo, até mesmo nos dizendo que as crianças da escola local haviam servido as batatas que eram usadas na cozinha. Eu certamente estaria de volta e recomendo este lugar para todos. Eu retornarei. 😀

Esta fue nuestra primera estancia en este fantástico pub. Desde nuestra llegada hasta nuestra partida, el personal nos hizo sentir bienvenidos y fue muy amable y servicial. Nos alojamos en un paquete de alojamiento y desayuno para la cena, la comida estaba fuera de este mundo y la amable camarera Holly nos sirvió con una sonrisa y también nos dio información sobre de dónde venía la comida, incluso diciéndonos que los niños de la escuela local se habían puesto las patatas que se usaban en la cocina. Sin duda volvería y recomendaría encarecidamente este lugar a todo el mundo. Volveré. 😀

This was our first stay at this fantastic pub. From our arrival to our departure the staff made us so welcome and were very friendly and helpful. We stayed on a dinner bed and breakfast package, the food was out of this world and the friendly waitress Holly served us with a smile and also gave us information about where the food had come from, even telling us that the local school children had set the potatoes that were used in the kitchen.
I would certainly be back and would highly recommend this place to everyone.

Tive o melhor almoço de domingo! A carne era generosa e assombrosamente bem preparada. A porção era ótima, mais do que suficiente. Eu tinha a carne, estava tão saborosa. O serviço também foi fantástico, servido por essas senhoras adoráveis, Claire e Tracey. Eles foram tão doces e fizeram o almoço ir de bom a incrível. A bagunça de Eton estava no próximo nível bom, desceu tão bem. Recomendaria este lugar para comida em casais, grupos e famílias. Espero talvez ficar lá na próxima vez também.

¡Tuve el mejor almuerzo de domingo! La carne era generosa y estaba increíblemente bien cocinada. La porción era genial, más que suficiente. Tuve la carne, estaba muy rica. El servicio también fue fantástico, servido por unas damas tan encantadoras, Claire y Tracey. Fueron tan dulces e hicieron que el almuerzo fuera de bueno a increíble. El lío de Eton fue bueno al siguiente nivel, cayó muy bien. Recomendaría este lugar para comer en parejas, grupos y familias. Espero quedarme allí la próxima vez también.

Had the best Sunday lunch! The meat was generous and cooked amazingly well. The portion was great, more then enough. I had the beef, was so tasty. The service was fantastic too, served by such lovely ladies, Claire and Tracey. They were so sweet and made the lunch go from good to amazing. The Eton mess was next level good, went down so well. Would recommend this place for food in couples, groups and families. Hope to maybe stay there next time too.

Última comida de las vacaciones, pero de lejos la mejor comida en general. Éramos una pareja con un perro pequeño y nos sentamos afuera para cenar. La comida estuvo excelente. Productos de muy buena calidad (de origen local) cocinados con un alto nivel y a un precio razonable. Nos sentamos afuera y el espacio del jardín era muy agradable. Incluso tienen un pequeño huerto al que puedes echar un vistazo y hay algunas buenas vistas sobre el campo circundante. De lejos, el mejor punto culminante fue Inés (nuestra camarera). De principio a fin, su servicio fue impecable. Reservamos una sesión a las 8.30 pm para cenar, pero verificamos de antemano la situación ya que queríamos sentarnos afuera debido a COVID-19. Nos dijeron que el establecimiento no reserva mesas afuera, pero Ines amablemente nos hizo saber que había una mesa disponible afuera antes de nuestra reserva. Inés fue educada, amable y atenta. Todos los cursos llegaron a tiempo y ella se aseguró de que estuviéramos felices durante nuestra visita. Nada era demasiado problema. ¡Muchas gracias a Josh y su equipo por una velada agradable y al chef Stephen por su recomendación!

Última refeição do feriado, mas de longe a melhor refeição em geral. Éramos um casal com um cachorro pequeno e sentamos do lado de fora para jantar. A comida era excelente. Produtos de realmente boa qualidade (de origem local) preparados com um alto padrão e com preços razoáveis. Sentamos lá fora e o espaço do jardim era muito agradável. Eles ainda têm uma pequena horta onde você pode dar uma olhada e há algumas boas vistas sobre a paisagem circundante. De longe, o melhor destaque foi Inês (nossa garçonete). Do início ao fim, seu atendimento foi impecável. Nós reservamos uma sessão de 20h30 para o jantar, mas verificamos com antecedência quanto à situação, pois queríamos sentar do lado de fora devido a COVID-19. Fomos informados de que o estabelecimento não reserva mesas do lado de fora, mas Ines gentilmente nos avise que havia uma mesa disponível fora antes de nossa reserva. Inês foi educada, simpática e atenciosa. Todos os cursos chegaram a tempo e ela fez questão de que ficássemos felizes durante a nossa visita. Nada era demais. Muito obrigado a Josh e sua equipe por uma noite adorável e ao chef Stephen por sua recomendação !!

Last meal of the holiday but by far the best meal overall. We were a couple with a small dog and we sat outside for dinner. The food was excellent. Really good quality produce (locally sourced) cooked to a high standard and reasonably priced. We sat outside and the garden space was very pleasant. They even have a small kitchen garden you can have a look at and there are some good views over the surrounding countryside. By far the best highlight was Ines (our waitress). From start to finish, her service was impeccable. We booked an 8.30pm sitting for dinner but checked beforehand as to the situation as we wished to sit outside due to COVID-19. We were told that the establishment does not book tables outside but Ines kindly let us know that there was a table available outside before our booking. Ines was polite, friendly and attentive. All courses arrived on time and she made certain that we were happy throughout our visit. Nothing was too much trouble. Many thanks to Josh and his team for a lovely evening and to chef Stephen for his recommendation!!
